Group Information

This is a group for the dedicated artists who either want to make a name for themselves in the comic industry or those that already have that want to help others along the same path. Any and all deviations submitted to the group are done so with the express purpose of receiving constructive feedback on the art. Comments like "Nice!" and "That's awesome" are great, and a tremendous ego boost, but don't really help to point out what was done right and what could be improved upon. This group is about improving our craft and developing contacts within the industry to put ourselves and others in position to succeed.

Submission Guidelines

- Please keep your submissions comic-related. There will be a lot of leeway given as to what is considered "comic-related" as we do so much more than just create comic-books. Advertising and various promotional images are a part of what we do and will be included.
- No more than 3 submissions per week please.
- No nudity or sexual content will be accepted. While this group doesn't need to be kept "all-ages", a respectful PG-13 line will be observed and gratuitous or overly sexual material will be rejected.
- Submit only original artwork. Reproductions of another artist's work will not be accepted.
- If a deviation has been declined, please do not resubmit it unless asked to do so. An explanation will be given for it's decline.

Blog Submissions

Feel free to submit a blog entry. It will be subject to review prior to posting, to ensure that it's keeping with the theme of the group, but if you have something to share, such as a tutorial, job openings, an interesting web-site, we want to encourage the communication.

Again, we encourage everyone in this group to interact with each other. Be it within the group or outside of it. Share your knowledge and bring the next generation of comic creators along for the ride.
As an artist I think my biggest frustration is getting people to look at and critique my work. I realize that I'm to deep in the creative process to give a truly objective opinion on my own work, but I find it annoying that it seems no else is able to. Despite being on this site for over a year and even joining groups that have offered to give me honest and helpful criticism I've found people  reluctant to post comments pointing out the flaws of my work.

I believe this causes the artist to enter  into a kind of Paradox loop, they post their art work to see what people think about it, the people either  say vague things about the work or nothing at all, the artist is then unable to grow or fix any problems with their future pieces, so any new pieces of work they make is no different then their old pieces.

I've found the culture of deviant art to be more concerned with being nice rather then being helpful and I think this hurts an artist ability to improve their work. I just don't understand why it seems that people can't be nice and give helpful honest advice?

Hmm... I just joined the group and for the first few minutes I feel like something is missing. I think there maybe should be a "Cover Artists" or something along the lines of a "Graphic art or Jack of all trades" folder. I would like to contribute but I am not sure what folder to post it in. Should I post finished works just in the "Colorists" folder? If so, would I only potentially get feedback on the colors? I apologize in advance if this has been already covered.

To be honest, I'm not really sure that fit with what the group was intended for. When I set things up, I wanted people to be able to get specific feedback on whatever discipline they were interested in working on rather than generic or overall comments. Placing a piece in a jack of all trades type of folder would just encourage the vagueness that the group is trying to avoid.

I'll admit that the set up isn't perfect for those that do the entire piece though, as it doesn't really allow you to submit to multiple folders to get feedback on the different disciplines. For your situation though, I would suggest choosing the discipline you're most interested in receiving feedback on, and submitting to that folder, then you could request feedback on the overall piece in your description page for the deviation.

The man who says he can and the man who says he can't are both right. Which one are you?

Hey thanks for the response. Yeah I see your point. It is still possible to submit to each folder at each stage to get feedback and the advantage like you said is that you can submit to the folder you want feedback on. But sometimes the process is a little looser as some artists work on pencils and inks at the same time, or pencils are scanned in and jumps straight to being colored digitally.
Maybe there should be a folder for just for cover work? This does not mean pinup work but rather artwork that is designed specifically for cover publication. A lot of times cover work includes title incorporation/manipulation on the page and this would of course be different from the Letters folder. Feedback on cover Composition/design is hard to find and I think it would fit keeping with the purpose of this group to offer something that other groups don't on specific disciplines. I have done some published cover work (that I have yet to put up on Deviant art) and would love to get some feedback on it.

Anybody interested in coloring a short story for me? No money involved, but I will give you full credit for whatever you do wherever I show your work. This should be good for guys who are starting coloring and are looking for stuff to work on.

Cheers!!!

Thank you for accepting me, here is one thing I might wanna add here, I pretty much handle all stages of my art. And it really feels wrong to me when I submit something that was pencilled, inked and colored by me "just" in the colorist folder.
What do you do with people who paint their pages? are those "just" colorists as well?
please think about that. thank you ^^
